At 133 lbs., freshman Luke Pletcher made the most of his collegiate debut, winning four matches on the day, with a crucial 4-1 victory over Mario Guillen of Ohio University to advance to the final match. In the title match, Pletcher faced off against Buckeye teammate freshman Brendan Fitzgerald, a match in which Fitzgerald conceded in a medical forfeit, putting Pletcher atop the podium to win first place in the weight class.Fitzgerald’s day was strong, pinning two opponents, while powering through a close match versus Giuseppe Penzone of Tiffin University, winning 6-4. Fitzgerald finished his wrestling with a fall in just a minute over Stevan Micic of Michigan. In his first tournament at 149 lbs., redshirt sophomore Micah Jordan dominated Saturday, scoring an impressive 79 points throughout four matches. Jordan’s final match of the day was more of the same, defeating Justin Oliver of Central Michigan University 15-7, becoming the second Buckeye to claim a title.Wrestling at 197 lbs., redshirt freshman Kollin Moore gave OSU its third title, where Moore scored in the double digits in all four matches.  Storming to the final match to compete for the title, Moore defeated Riley Lefever of Wabash College 11-6, finding his way to the top of the podium. Two Buckeyes placed third at Eastern Michigan. Redshirt sophomore Cody Burcher, at 165 pounds, along with redshirt junior Jack Rozema, at 184 pounds, both bounced back from semifinal losses to claim third on the day in their respective weight classes.Meanwhile, at Cleveland State University, OSU sophomore Myles Martin wrestled in a feature match at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Saturday night.  The 184 pound dual brought Martin against two-time defending national champion Gabe Dean of Cornell.  Martin’s first match at 184 pounds did not go his way, as he fell to Dean 13-4. Tottenham hope to have Son back against Watford

first_imgEnglish side have had to endure a tough period following their second exit from a cup competition in the space of four days. The London side is set to have a relief as Son Heung-Min is believed to likely return for their midweek clash with Watford.Son has missed the last three games while being on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup, but their surprise quarter-final exit to Qatar means he is back in the fold earlier than expected.“On Sunday we were with him on the training ground in the morning,” boss Mauricio Pochettino SportBT.“He’s so tired, he played three games. Very tough games.“Of course not too much energy on Sunday, but we hope he’ll be available and ready on Wednesday to help the team.”What to expect from Watford V Arsenal? Taimoor Khan – September 8, 2019 Arsenal are set to take on Watford this weekend and the game is definitely going to be quite a peculiar contest between two sides…Pochettino says he has moved on from the defeats and has shifted his focus on a top four finish in the Premier league as well as advancing in the UEFA champions league.“Of course I am disappointed because, after Thursday and today again, out of two competitions – you feel disappointed. You can’t feel anything different,” Pochettino said.“But now we have to be positive. We are still in two competitions, in a good position in the Premier League and the Champions League is a massive motivation for the whole club. We have to be strong.“Now the realistic targets are trying to be in the top four, try and be close to Manchester City and Liverpool and reduce the gap.“To be a contender is always difficult for us. (Top four) is realistic.“Another is to try and beat (Borussia) Dortmund and be in the next round of the Champions League. That is tough.”last_img read more

With Charges Dropped Against Some Parents Who Crossed The Border With Families

first_img Share Ivan Pierre Aguirre for The Texas TribuneMarchers head towards the tent city at Tornillo Port of Entry to protest the tent city erected there to house children separated from their parents at the border. The Trump administration insists it’s still prosecuting everyone who crosses the border illegally. But in one of Texas’ busiest border districts, federal prosecutors have dropped charges against some immigrants who entered the United States with their children — raising questions about whether President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy effectively remains in place. In an executive order Wednesday ending the separation of families at the border, Trump declared that migrant families should be detained together by the Department of Homeland Security while parents await prosecution, instead of parents being sent to jails and children sent to shelters. But doing that requires overcoming exceedingly difficult legal and logistical challenges — so “there is a necessary transition that will need to occur,” said Daryl Fields, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Texas, which covers hundreds of miles of the Texas-Mexico border, including El Paso and Del Rio.“As part of that transition, the office today dismissed certain cases that were pending when the President issued the order,” Fields said Thursday night. In the chaos wrought by Trump’s order, it’s not clear exactly how many cases have been dismissed or who has ordered their dismissal — U.S. attorneys take their cues directly from the federal U.S. Department of Justice, which had ordered them to prosecute all illegal crossings “to the extent practicable.” Many attorneys representing migrants say they don’t know. And federal officials have given conflicting information.Maureen Scott Franco, who heads the federal public defender’s office in the Western District of Texas, wrote to her colleagues Thursday that charges have been or will be dropped against all immigrants who were separated from their children.Franco said in an interview later Thursday she was told by the U.S. attorney in the district that there weren’t suitable facilities to hold the migrant families, so some cases were being dismissed “if the case involved a family having to be separated.” The federal government has three detention centers that hold families, and those were reportedly already  near capacity weeks ago. As federal prosecutors consider options for housing families legally, Franco said, “everything is on hold.”On Thursday, Fields seemed to confirm that, telling NBC News that charges would be dismissed against all immigrants who did not have serious criminal histories. But later, he retracted that statement, instead saying only that his office dismissed “certain cases.”Franco said she expects no further charges will be filed against immigrants crossing with their families until the government solves its facilities challenge. That would be a sharp departure from the Trump administration’s insistence that everyone who crosses the border illegally is still being prosecuted. U.S. Customs and Border Protection told The Washington Post Thursday it would stop sending families to federal prosecutors. The Department of Justice did not return a request for comment Friday morning.Dropping charges puts a “major dent” in the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy, said Carlos Spector, an immigration attorney in El Paso. But even without criminal charges, Spector said, families are likely to be held for long stretches of time in immigration detention centers as they contend with the civil portion of their immigration cases.Spector said he wasn’t sure how far the policy had spread, but added, “I can’t imagine it just being here. Ground zero for ‘zero tolerance’ is El Paso. So if they lifted it here it makes no sense to have it anywhere else.”It’s not clear whether charges against migrant parents have been dropped in the Southern District of Texas, the state’s other major border region, which includes ports of entry from Laredo down to Brownsville. On Friday, 61 immigrants appeared in a McAllen courthouse to be arraigned on illegal entry charges, according to Marjorie Meyers, the top federal public defender in the region. None of them had crossed the border with children. And on Thursday morning, 17 immigrants who were separated from their children had been brought to the same McAllen courthouse on allegations of illegal entry. But minutes before the judge arrived, their cases were removed from the docket and they were not charged, according to the Texas Civil Rights Project, whose lawyers were on hand for the proceedings.Meyers confirmed that the 17 immigrants who were taken off the judge’s schedule had been deemed “heads of household,” suggesting their prosecution was stalled because they had children in the United States.Other immigrants in the courtroom Thursday were criminally charged, the Texas Civil Rights Project said.Angela Dodge, spokeswoman for the federal prosecutor in the Southern District, said Thursday that “we prosecuted all the cases that were presented in court today.” Cases removed from the docket would not have been presented in court.“No cases were dismissed in the Southern District of Texas due to the family unit issue,” Dodge insisted.Meyers said since Trump’s order on Wednesday, it’s been unclear how prosecutors and immigration officers will handle immigrants who crossed the border with their children.Julián Aguilar contributed reporting from El Paso.last_img read more

(PhysOrg.com) — Most of us forget how much our cell phones are a part of the day-to-day of our lives until we don’t have access to them. I’m not just talking about when you leave it at home, in a callous act of irresponsibility. An event as simple as a dead battery can mean that you miss an important call that creates ripples in your whole week. © 2010 PhysOrg.com NTT Docomo’s new smartphone features wireless charger So when you are out and your battery suddenly goes to red what are you going to do about it? Unless you happen to have an outlet in your pocket, in which case you are probably a robot, you are short on options. Or, at least you used to be. In the near future Panasonic may have a solution to your problem. They were showing off a prototype of a solar-powered inductive charging table at the Retail Tech Expo in Tokyo. The device would be able to wirelessly charge any device with a Qi battery simply by setting the device down on it. This not the first wireless charging station on the market. In 2010 Energizer put out a similar pad that relied on being plugged in to a power source. Various companies have created solar chargers for mobile devices, though most of these have been too unwieldy or too expensive to become popular. Panasonic is the first company to date to combine the two ideas and create a wireless solar charger. Panasonic did mention that these units would be on sale by the end of this year in Japan. No word has been given yet on when this device will be on sale in the United States.last_img read more

Our Flag Reflections on Flag Day

first_img The American Flag represents over 240 years of freedom.  However, that freedom has come at a heavy cost, from the Revolution to the Global War on Terrorism. As a nation, we have sacrificed much to protect the freedoms we hold dear and to promote democracy in every corner of the world.Everyday across the United States of America, we proudly fly the flag to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our great heritage of freedom and opportunity. When we swear allegiance to our flag it is not mere tradition but a solemn and sacred vow to those heroes who have shed their blood in exchange for our freedom. It is a promise that their sacrifice was not in vain. The flag is a symbol of freedom and hope. Hope, that in spite of the struggles we may face, our children will have a bright future, free from oppression and full of promise and liberty. As we approach Flag Day, June 14, I would like to share some guidelines for showing the proper respect to our flag, the symbol or our great nation. No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, state flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. When displaying the American flag, the U.S. flag is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered. No other flag should be hoisted above it, and no other flags may be larger.During the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, citizens should stand and face the flag, remove any headdress and either salute or cross their chest with their right hand. The American flag should fly only from sunrise to sunset; however, the flag may be displayed for 24 hours or more if it is properly illuminated through the night hours. The American flag should never touch the ground nor should it be written or drawn on, disfigured or defiled in any way. When a flag is worn or tattered and can no longer serve as a symbol for our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Many American Legion posts conduct dignified burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day. If you have such a flag, I encourage you to take it to your local post and let it be retired with the respect it deserves.Remember that we say the pledge, not to a piece of cloth, but to the ideals that it represents, “to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”I hope you will join me in reminding others to give our flag the honor it is due, not just this Flag Day, but every day of the year.
