The Donegal Masters made their return to the field last night in the competitive surroundings of Killyclogher for the first Championship match of the year against Antrim. A squad with great depth and experience throughout was at John Mc Nulty’s disposal and the men ran out comfortable winners in the end with an impressive scoring patch in the first half giving the team a good cushion. Every man on the squad got game time and will no doubt continue to push hard in the training.Donegal dominated the play in the first half and restricted Antrim to a single score which came on the cusp of half time. Martin Gillespie’s repertoire of kick outs were accurate all game and were won by David Mc Shane and Charlie Bonner who controlled the midfield or when necessary to the half backs. Antrim had the first chance to register a score in the game when they won a free after 6 minutes but their centre forward sent the ball wide. The opening phase of the game involved both teams sussing each other out and attempting to apply their game plans. Four Master’s man Benny Cassidy hit the first score of the game and the first of many to his personal tally of the evening after 8 minutes and followed up with a free then soon after. Antrim tried to respond but another free and attempt went wide.David McShane in hot pursuit.Donegal soon had the ball in the back of the net after Sean Boyce found Benny Cassidy who offloaded to Gerard Mc Grenra of Glenswilly but the goal was ruled out by the referee. At the 18 minute mark of the first half a Sean Boyce effort in hung in the air and eventually dropped into the arms of Gerard Mc Grenra who confidently slotted past the Antrim goalkeeper and Donegal had their goal and a 5 point lead. A minute later Donegal had their second goal of the game when goal scorer Mc Grenra turned provider for Eddie Gallagher and the lead was now 8 points.Exquisite play by Seán Mac Cumhaills duo Emmet McCormack and Sean Boyce saw the latter pointing over. Mc Grenra notched over another point on 22 minutes when his long range effort just about cleared the cross bar and Boyce added his second point of the game directly after it. Donegal looked to have another score on the board when John Anthony Mc Mullan’s shot looked to be clean over but veered left. Antrim hit their first score of the half on 29 minutes.Half time score:Donegal……2.05Antrim……..0.01 The second half had a different story to tell than the first half with a much rejuvenated Antrim roaring out of the blocks for the second half and improving on their scoring tally than the first. Gerard Mc Grenra added his second point of the game 5 minutes in and James Mc Bride was called into action to dive and block an attempt at goal. Donegal then went 11 minutes without recording a score with Antrim hitting 4 points in this period.Sean Boyce broke the scoring deadlock on 16 minutes and the whole team soon upped the level of performance enhanced by the use of a strong bench. Martin Gillespie of Naomh Columba pulled off an excellent save to deny Antrim the chance of a goal and the introduced Johnny Mc Ginty added his own point when he connected sweetly with a bouncing ball to guide the ball over.Benny Cassidy added three more points with Sean Boyce contributing with a point again from play. Donegal went on to complete the scoring with 5 minutes to go after a Johnny Mc Ginty diagonal ball found Paul Gallagher of Naomh Muire who slotted over. Antrim forced a goal mouth scramble before full time but the defence were on hand to deny any threats.Full time score:Donegal……2.13Antrim……..0.07Donegal Masters:Martin Gillespie, Charlie Doherty, Charlie Boyle, Ross Brady, James Mc Bride, Kevin Mc Gettigan, Michael Mc Shane, David Mc Shane, Charlie Bonner, John Anthony Mc Mullan, Gerard Mc Grenra (1.2), Eddie Gallagher (1.0), Benny Cassidy (0.5), Sean Boyce (0.4), Emmet Mc Cormack Val Murray, Kerry Ryan, Dan Branley, Paul Gallagher (0.1), Martin Mc Shane, Johnny Mc Ginty (0.1), Stephen Wall, Charlie Gallagher, Joe Boyle, Shane Mc Clafferty, Adrian Mc Gettigan, Paul Mc GlynnGAA: Donegal Masters beat Antrim in championship opener was last modified: July 23rd, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)

He hasn’t played much in the preseason.“This is all relatively part of the plan I had sketched out,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I wanted him to be in training camp … and he really wanted to be there too, just to establish the right tone out of camp. We want to try to strike that balance of keeping him in shape and making sure he’s peaking for the first game, not going the other way. Liverpool treated their fans to some Christmas cheer with a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday, extending their lead at the top of the table. The win put Liverpool on 51 points at the halfway point in the season, six ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who hammered Bournemouth 5-0, and seven ahead of champions Manchester City who lost 2-1 at Leicester City.Returning to the club he led to the Champions League title in 2005, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez picked his team with defence in mind, stringing five players across the back. But defender Jamaal Lascelles inadvertently teed Dejan Lovren up for the opening goal, carelessly heading an attempted clearance into the path of the Liverpool centre back, who cracked home a fine half-volley in the 11th minute.Newcastle managed to hold firm until halftime but within minutes of the restart they were two down as Mohamed Salah scored his 13th league goal of the season from the penalty spot following an innocuous foul on him by Paul Dummett.Liverpool’s enormous pressure threatened to give them a third goal at any moment, and it came when Xherdan Shaqiri stabbed home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross from close range in the 79th minute. Fabinho made it 4-0 by heading home Salah’s corner.Liverpool’s fans burst into song as news reached the Anfield stands that Manchester City had lost at Leicester, giving the Merseysiders the Christmas gift they wanted as they chase a first league title since 1990.City suffer second straight league defeatadvertisementCity suffered their second straight Premier League defeat as they were stunned by a late strike from Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira in a 2-1 loss on Wednesday.City were looking to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat by Crystal Palace and were in front after 14 minutes when Bernardo Silva finished with his left foot after being played through by Sergio Aguero. But four minutes later Leicester were back on level terms after Marc Albrighton met Jamie Vardy’s cross with his head from close range.Leicester’s defence held tight despite an onslaught from City, with Fabian Delph and Aguero both missing good chances.Pep Guardiola’s team were may to pay for those spurned opportunities as Ricardo unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top left corner beyond Ederson with less than 10 minutes from the end.Manchester United beat Huddersfield Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued his dream start as Manchester United caretaker manager with a 3-1 Premier League win over Huddersfield on his Old Trafford debut in the dugout on Wednesday.Paul Pogba scored two superb goals in the second half after Nemanja Matic fired United ahead in the 28th minute to continue United’s revival under their former striker Solskjaer, who hit the ground running in Saturday’s 5-1 win at Cardiff City. The result left United sixth on 32 points from 19 games halfway through their campaign while Huddersfield stayed rooted to the bottom with 10 points after suffering their sixth successive league defeat. Also Read | Sunil Chhetri and I have a telepathic understanding on the pitch, says Jeje Lalpekhlua
Man Utd will hand Solskjaer January fundsby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have money to spend in January. The Daily Mail says United put the Norwegian in charge of a rebuilding process when he was appointed full-time in March and accept that it will take time for him to turn the club’s fortunes around. They will back Solskjaer in the January transfer window if he wants to strengthen his squad again after spending nearly £150million this summer on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James. In particular, United are in need of a striker, having allowed Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave without signing a replacement. The decision has backfired after Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were injured, while teenage prospect Mason Greenwood missed the West Ham game with tonsillitis. Schalke 04 have reportedly denied any interest in signing Dominic Solanke from Liverpool on loanThe 21-year-old striker is yet to have a single minute of action this season after making 21 Premier League appearances last term. This is due to the reemergence of Daniel Sturridge, who has made 15 appearances this term after falling out of favour this time last year. But Sky Sports reports that Schalke have no move for Solanke and will likely not make any whatsoever. This new twist leaves Crystal Palace the clear favourites now to sign Solanke with manager Roy Hodgson confirming his interest.Liverpool legend Nicol slams Harry Maguire’s Man United form Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Steve Nicol believes Harry Maguire has made some “horrendous mistakes” recently, and has failed to find his best form since joining Manchester United.Hodgson said: “It’s obviously not a secret that’s he’s a target and someone we’d like to have.“What would he do for us? He’d provide the attacking threat a good centre-forward should provide and he’s a proven goalscorer through the age groups with Chelsea and England.“If he comes here, it will be a great opportunity to show he can transfer that to Premier League football because we have someone who is the profile we are looking for and who I think has the ability we are looking for.”Another club allegedly interested in the England U-21 international is Huddersfield Town.
Kenai City Manager Paul Ostrander: “The dipnet fishery was significantly down from previous years. Our gross revenue for the year was $375,000 that compares to a gross revenue of last year of $547,000.” The DF&G announced the early closure to the dipnet fishery in order to meet the sustainable escapement goal of 700,000 to 1.2 million late-run sockeye salmon in the Kenai River–a goal officials say “may not be met without a reduction in harvest of this stock.” Additional restrictions on commercial and sport fisheries have also being implemented. According to Ostrander the city had budgeted the usage fees for the season at $578,000: “We missed that by a significant amount, almost $200,000. We’ll start working internally and administratively to figure out what we need to do.”
